Abstract
Temperature dependence of the electrical conductivity of fresh and irradiated ~
tetrachloro -p-bertzoquinorie (p-chloranil ) was carried out. The values of the
thermal activation energies, as well as the electrical conductivities indicate that
the fresh and irradiated p-chloranil behave like semiconductors. The electrical
conductivities of p-chloranil as a function ofvoJtage ( at room temperature) are
high in comparison with the unirradiated ones for 0.1 Mrad and 0.2 Mrad doses,
while it is found to be less for 0.3 Mrad due to the damage in the molecular
network of the solid crystal. The serniconducting character arises as a result of
electron delocalization due to re-bond dissociation (C=O and C=C ) via radical
anions formation of p-chloroanil.
