Modulatory Effect of Vitamin E against Diazinon Induced Oxidative stress in Lymphoid Organs in Rats

Mohamed, Enas Ali Kamel;

Abstract

Diazinon is a toxic organophosphate pesticide, has been used worldwide in agriculture and domestic for several years which has led to a variety of negative effects in non target species including humans. Vitamin E is a primary antioxidant that plays an important role in protecting cells against toxicity by inactivating free radicals generated following pesticides exposure. Therefore, the present study was attempted to investigate the possible ameliorative effect of vitamin E against DZN- induced oxidative stress in lymphoid tissue (thymus and spleen). Diazinon administration to rats resulted in massive elevation in Malondialdehyde (MDA )and nitric oxide (NO) levels. Moreover, oral diazinon administration caused a significant decrease in the activities of enzymatic antioxidant; Catalase (CAT) and Superoxide dismutase (SOD) (P) and non enzymatic antioxidant reduced gulathione in both thymus and spleen. Co-administration of vitamin E (200mg/kg body weight) along with DZN for 4 weeks attenuated oxidative damage induced in lymphoid organs resulting in a significant decrease in MDA and NO levels. Also, the enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants were significantly restored to nearly normal levels. It can be concluded that vitamin E has an ameliorative effect against DZN induced oxidative damage and supplementation of vitamin E might be beneficial to DZN exposed populations.
