Abstract

The objective of this research is to study the expected changes in the Nile River morphology due to abnormal flows. Damietta Branch was selected as a case study for this research since it is an important branch for discharging conveyance, navigation and because of the future plans of passing 80 M.m3/day. The studied reach in this research is only from Delta Barrages to Zifta Barrages that has a length of about 93.65 km. For this purpose one-dimensional model was developed to compute the water surface profile and the amount of degradation and aggradation to predict finally the cross section geometry. The developed model is more flexible than the other commercial one-dimensional models. Also, map analysis technique was used to study the other morphological changes that are not covered by the developed model. For example lateral migration (shift to left or shift to right) and the change in the river width.
