Abstract


Traditional medicine is the sum total of knowledge, skills
and practices based on the theories, beliefs and experiences
indigenous to different cultures that are used to maintain
health, as well as to prevent, diagnose, improve or treat
physical and mental illness
Aim of the study
The study
aimed to assess the traditional methods that used for reliving
PMS among nursing students at the faculty of nursing-Ain
Shams University. The study comprised 152 female students
among the four academic years (2010 -2011) who complain
from PMS (aged 17-23 years old)
two tools
were used for
data collection; a structured interview questionnaire sheet,
prospective record of the impact and severity of menstrual
symptoms (PRISM calendar), ,
The study revealed that
the
mean age of students (19.3±1.5) years, (63.3%)were from
urban areas, family income 42.8%( less than 500 l.E ) , Can
be concluded that 62.5% of the students use the traditional
methods for reliving PMS traditional methods that used was
tight belt 5.3%, exercises 7.9% , Warm shower 17.1% , Warm
fl
uids 20.4%, warm compressors 6.5%, rest & sleep5.3% and
some popular herbs69.8%.This study shows that there is no
signi
fi
cant correlation regarding using methods for reliving
PMS and place of residence and family income.
