Abstract

The complexity of the waveform on the seismograms and its relation
to the effect of the propagation path was studied using different local and
regional earthquakes, as well as from different quarry blasts and propagation
paths. It is found that, there is a great variation in the waveform and spectral
content due to the path heterogeneity effect. However, through the study of
the effect of the focal depth on the appearance of the seismograms features, it
is noticed that, in case of local earthquakes, the surface waves are not
predominant, while in case of quarry blasts, the surface waves are
predominant and the seismograms seem to be more complicated because the
quarry blasts are more shallower than the local earthquakes.
