: Factors contributes of non compliance of neonatal nurses provide care for neonate with respiratory distress syndrome

Abstract


Background: Neonatal respiratory distress is the most common neonatal emergency and the main cause of admission to the neonatal intensive care units. Standards of care become the basis for determining the level of delivered care and for quality improvement within the organization. The neonate has the right of quality nursing care. Nurses are key members of the neonatal care team and play a vital role in the delivery of quality neonatal services.
Aim of study was to assess factors contributes of non compliance of neonatal nurses provide care for neonate with respiratory distress syndrome. Research design: was a descriptive correlated research design. Setting: The study was conducted at eight neonatal affiliated to different health sectors private, Ministry of Health, Health Insurance, University Hospitals and Governmental Hospitals in Cairo. Subject: A purposive sample consists90nurses were giving a direct care for neonates with respiratory distress syndrome working at the previously mentioned setting and one hundred neonates with respiratory distress syndrome.
1. Tools: Five tools were used for data collection a Clinical performance monitoring indicator to measure the application of neonatal care standard for respiratory distress, observation check list to assess the physical set up of each neonatal unit ,questioner sheet to assess the principal reason for non-compliance , Job stress scale and Job satisfaction with organizational Climate Measure. . Results of the study revealed that tow third of the studied were not compliance to care standard for respiratory distress syndrome and the principal reason for non-compliance were unsatisfactory knowledge versus performance together with nurses sociodemographic characteristic such as age, educational level and year of experiences were the main factors contributes of non compliance together with lack of supervision. support,training,welfare,lack of formalization ,tradition and lack of outward focus Conclusions: It could be concluded that knowledge deficit about the care standard for respiratory distress syndrome, nurses performances versus the knowledge and nurses sociodemographic characteristic together with job dissatisfaction, organization climate and job stress were factors contributes to non compliance of neonatal nurses.Recomendation Improving nurse's compliance through in-service educational programs and in job training to update organization climate and limited job dissatisfaction and job stress.
