- EEffect of SeEffect of self Care Guidelin on Women's Knowledge with Gynecological cancer Gynecological Cancer Effect undergoing Chemotherapy

Abstract

Aim of study: to evaluate the effect of using self-care guideline on women's knowledge with gynecological cancer undergoing chemotherapy. Design: intervention study. Setting: The present study was conducted at Ain- Shams University Maternity Hospital (at gynecological oncology unite) and Radiation Oncology & Nuclear Medicine center of Ain Shams University (at gynecological outpatient & inpatient department). Subjects and methods: A purposive sample of 100 patients, Which divided into two equal groups: study group (50 patients) followed a self-care guideline and the control group (50 patients) took routine hospital care .Data were collected through two types of tools ( a structured interviewing questionnaire sheet and developed self- care guide line ( learning booklet). Results: revealed there were highly significant improvement of women's knowledge regarding gynaecological cancer, chemotherapy side effects and self care measures to mange manage these side effects after one and three months of using self care guideline among study group as compared to control group. The study highlight that highly significant relation between total patients' knowledge scores and their socio demographic data.Conclusion: The result of the present study confirmed the positive effect of using self-care guideline on women's knowledge with gynecological cancer undergoing chemotherapy. Recommendations: Using the developed self care guide line by all chemotherapy units out-patients' clinics and in-patients' unit. Extensive educational and self-care programs along with long-term follow up of chemotherapeutic patient. In-service training programs are needed for nurses to provide them with the updated essential knowledge and practices about gynecological cancer, chemotherapy side effects and self care measures to manage these side effects. Further research is needed to evaluate effect of self care guide line on women's knowledge with gynecological cancer undergoing other treatment modalities (radiotherapy & surgical treatment).
