Abstract


This thesis is concerned with the analysis of political discourse, particularly President Bush's political speeches during the Gulf crisis. It aims at presenting a comprehensive view on the political discourse. The thesis consists of an introduction, three chapters and a conclusion. The introduction outlines the aim and the questions to be addressed in the research. The first chapter discusses the semantic features of the political discourse. Chapter two describes the effects of syntactic forms on the comprehension of the political language. Chapter three provides a review on some pragmatic approaches that aid in interpreting the linguistic devices employed in the speeches. In addition, it examines how the linguistic features in the political speeches can help in extracting meanings and achieving persuasion. However, the conclusion provides the results and findings of the dissertation.
