"DETERMINATION OF SPECIFIC ACTIVITY OF NATURAL RADIOACTIVITY FOR ASSESSMENT OF HAZARD RADIATION FROM THE EGYPTIAN RAW MATERIAL"

Abstract


Sixty feldspar samples were collected from Wadi El Dahl which Ites far about 50 km to the West from Zaafarana in Northern Eastern Desert from 12 location .Also 35 samples feldspar from Wadi Abu Zawal which ites to the west of Safaga the central Eastern Desert from 7 location .The specific activity of 238U , 232Th and 40K was determined by gamma-ray spectrometry with a high purity germanium (HPGe) detector . The mean activity concentrations of natural radionuclides as well as some radiological parameters were measured in feldspar samples .The activity concentration of uranium was found to vary from (26.89 to 76.85 Bq/kg) thorium from (29.73 to 57.24Bq/km) and potassium activity from (1201.81 to 1559.59 Bq/km) in Wadi El Aahl .Also in Wadi Abu Zawal the concentration of 238U , 232Th vary between (12.90 and 601.91) , (7.1 and 701.69 Bq/km) respectively .The concentration of 40K is varying between (2569.75 and 4766.26) Bq/km. The radium equivalent activity , the activity index , the emanation coefficient , the 222Rn mass exhalation rate , the absorbed dos e rate and the effective dose rate were estimated for the radiation hazard of the natural radioactivity in all samples.
The results show that in W.El Dahl Raeq values are in the recommended maximum level . So, the use sediment feldspar from W.El Dahl as builing materials is safety for human life .On the other hand , the calculated effective dose for the feldspar from W.Abu Zawal is higher than permissible limit which may represent an environmental risk to use as building industry.
