Abstract


Percutaneous intervention devices constituted a revolution in cardiovascular medicine. But, controversies were present about the factors predisposing • to their complications whether acute or chronic.
Coronary artery size was one of these factors . causing a debate on its influence.


This work was planned to screen mam coronary arteries size in Egyptians in order to prove or disprove that Egyptians have small coronary arteries and to compare them to other races.


Five hundreds and twenty four patients referred for coronary angiography were included in this study with no local atheroma nor spasm nor complete obstruction nor proximal stenosis nor attenuations nor multiple stenoses in the same vessel. Patients had no cardiomyopathy nor valvular heart disease nor left ventricular hypertrophy. They were divided into three age groups and were subjected to a quantitative coronary angiography for determination of the diameters of different segments of each coronary artery.
