Abstract
This work has been carried out in the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Kentucky USA within the period of October 1995 till March
1999, this through the scientific channel system between it and Faculty of Agriculture, Ain Shams University, Cairo Egypt. This study aimed to investigate the morphological, physiological and histological for eggplant and potato species after its infestation by Tetranychus urticae Koch. Also concerned of the plant defense mechanism and investigate the chemical substances and its effect on the behavior, fecundity and the toxic effect of mite. The results obtained from this study were as following:-
A- Population of T. urticae
To evaluate the eggplant and potato species to mite infestation, the results obtained after 2 weeks from the initial infestation (200 female/plant), under greenhouse condition were :
1- Eggplant Solanum melongena was highly susceptible to T. urticae (9 individual mite per Cm2) while S. mammosum was highly resistant (zero mite per Cm\
2- Potato S. tuberosum was susceptible to T. urticae (0.44 individual mite per Cm2) while S. berthaultii was highly resistant (zero mite per Cm\
8- Effect of T. urticae on the leaf area and plant length
The leaf area and plant lengths of S. melongena were reduced by the mite infestation compared with control free mites. The reduction percentage of the leaf area and plant length was 31.1% and 13.7% respectively. Leaf area and plant length of S. mammosum, S. berthaultii and S. tuberosum did not affect by mite infestation
C- Effect ofT. urticae on the leaf components
1- T. urticae infestation reduced the chlorophyll and phosphorous content in the leaf of egg-plat S. melongena compared with control free
