Abstract

The present study was conducted to demonstrate the effects of long term exposure to formalin vapour in the usual concentrations present in the dissection rooms in Anatomy departments on the liver of albino rats. A group of 20 healthy adult albino rats of both sexes were used in this study and divided into 2 major groups :-
Group (A):- comprised 5 rats, served as control group and left to live in normal environment away from any source of formalin vapour.
Group (B):-comprised 15 rats and further subdivided into
3 subgroups (Bl, B2 and BJ)which were exposed to formalin vapour in the embalming room for different periods 4, 8 and 12 weeks respectively.
It was noted that the rats of exposed groups had gradually bad general condition, stertorous respiration and were lethargic, with ruffling of fur .they ate and drank little with obvious reduction in their body weight compared to the control rats.
