CENTRAL AUDITORY PROCESSING DISORDERS IN LEARNING DISABILITY

RASHA MOHAMED ALKASABY;

Abstract

The term learning disability is a generic term that refers to a heterogeneous group of disorders manifested by significant difficulties in the acquisition and use of listening, speaking, reading, writing, reasoning, or mathematical abilities. The learning disabled individuals may demonstrate difficulty in discrimination, recognition, or comprehension of information even though the person has normal intelligence.
Dyslexia is a specific form of learning disabilities in which the child has severe level of reading impairment and also in need for specific evaluation and for developing intervention program.
Multiple studies have been carried to highlight the etiology of the problem of learning disability, but have failed to reach precisely its leading factors. However some factors have been incriminated in the causation of the problem of learning disability, namely, genetic factors, neurological dysfunction, delayed maturation of the central nervous system, environmen tal factors, and yet the area of central auditory processing is the seat of much vagueness and controversy. This may be the result of shortage of coursework, and knowledge about central auditory processing.
