Structural Changes of the Parotid Gland in different age groups Of the albino rat
Hesham Ibrahim Abdallah;
Abstract
Reviewing the literature, it became evident that most of the studies were performed on the adult parotid gland. However, the postnatal development of the parotid gland
received little attention. The aim of the present work is to study the development of the parotid gland in the albino rat from birth
until senility to determine the structural changes of the parotid gland at different age groups.
The study was based on material obtained from male offsprings of ten pregnant females albino rats of the wister strain obtained from animal house of faculty of medicine Ain Shams University. Five male animals were sacrified on each of the following ages: One day, seven days, two weeks, one month and three monthes. Another three senile animals two years old
were alsb scarified.
For the postnatal study, paraffin sections and semithin sections were employed, also PAS reaction was used to determine the character of the secretion ofthe parotid gland.
