BIOMIMICRY — AN ENVIRONMENTAL APPROACH FOR SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURAL DESIGNAND NEW CONTRACT BETWEEN ARCHITECTURE AND NATURE

Samaa Emad Al-Deen Helmy Ameen;

Abstract

In light of the different problems and phenomena facing the world in particular global warming, climate change, lack of resources management and many other aspects resulting from human misuse and exploitation of the urban environment, this thesis presents a different approach and a method to improve the architectural design process, which is based on taking nature as a model. This architectural approach extracts many biological principles, analyzes them and then abstracts them for use in architectural design in order to maintain the surrounding environment and find a new era between architecture and the environment. Architecture and biology have common similarities; both are based on organizational and material basis. Nature represents a rich source of solutions to many human problems, representing a strong motivation to examine and study living organisms and natural systems to find the potential benefits to architecture and sustainable development. The link between biomimicry approach and its relation to the climate change has been investigated too. Results, conclusion and recommendation were highlighted.
