Abstract


This thesis is an attempt to critically analyze the political discourse of Ex-president Mubarak in the period from July 2005 to February 2011. It attempts to determine and analyze the manipulation strategies and provocation features in the political discourse under study. It deals with the well known polarization strategy of Us vs. Them, the manipulation of social cognition, the main features of Mubarak's ideological discourse, the gap between rhetoric and reality and humor as a strategy of manipulation and source of provocation. The thesis also attempts to offer a taxonomical model for analyzing provocation in political discourse.
