A COMPARATIVE STUDY BETWEEN HYSTEROSALPINGOGRAPHY AND LAPAROSCOPY IN EVALUATING TUBAL FACTOR IN FEMALE INFERTILITY
Ali Maher Mohamad;
Abstract
Infertility IS defined as the inability to achieve pregnancy after 12 months of unprotected, adequately timed intercourse. The problem affects about 20% of couples. Peak fertility occurs at age 25 and a steep decline in fertility occurs after age of 35 years.
The proportion of infertility, attributable to a tubal cause, is considered to_ be slowly rising, due to the increasing prevalence of salpingitis, the growing number of
•ectopic pregnancies, and the fact that microsurgical and
laparoscopic interventions are becoming more common.
Hysterosalpingogaphy has long been and still remains an integral component in the investigation of infertility. Although various modalities for evaluating the uterine cavity and the fallopian tubes have been proposed, hysterosalpingography is the • most commonly used screening test for the evaluation of the female's pelvic anatomy. The results of hysterosalpingography are important because they often determine the- subsequent course ofa patient's management strategy.
This study involved 50 case-s of infeffile women, with age ranged from 20 to 35 and duration of infertility from 2 to 15 years. All cases had hysterosalpingography and laparoscopy performed at Ain Shams University Maternity Hospital and Galaa Maternity Hospital,
