SUPRAPUBIC VERSUS TRANSURETHRAL BLADDER DRAINAGE FOLLOWING BURCH COLPOSUSPENSION

Abstract


This study included forty patients admitted to Ain shams maternity hospital and El-Galaa teaching hospital with provisional diagnosis of stress incontinence for investigation.
All cases were examined medically, gynaecologically and neurologically. Urine analysis done and urine culture. Stress test was done to objectively confirm diagnosis.
All patients were subjected to urodynamic studies to confirm the diagnosis of genuine stress incontinence.
Burch colposuspension was performed to correct the condition of genuine stress incontinence. The patients were divided equally as two groups according to computer-generated numbers to receive suprapubic catheter (study group) or transurethral catheter (control group), following the surgery.
The study group mean age was 47.5, mean weight was 80.0 Kg and mean parity was 4.3. Three patients had cystocele, four had rectocele and five patients had dual pathology (GSI and detrusor instability). The mean operation time was 90 min.
