CORRELATION BETWEEN VISUAL ACUITY AND OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY MACULAR PARAMETERS IN CONTROLLED TYPE II DIABETIC PATIENTS

Mariana Nashaat William Yacob;

Abstract

DR and DME are considered the main causes of
blindness even in developed countries, affecting patient`s
quality of life, especially when affecting CFT.
DME can be diagnosed clinically by stereoscopic
fundus examination.
OCT is a technique for scanning of the entire
macular area, giving not only the measurement of the
macular thickness but also revealing retinal structural
changes. OCT is considered the most sensitive parameter
for accurate measurement of macular thickness.
The aim of this study was to correlate VA and CFT of
ETDRS map and also to assess the correlation between
both CFT and BCVA with blood sugar parameters.
The study was carried out on 30 eyes of 22
controlled type II diabetic patients (group1) and 30eye of
19 age and sex matched healthy subjects (group2). All
cases of group1 had macular edema at different stages of
DR
