Evaluation of Chitin Extracted from Different Sources and Some Biological Applications to its Derivatives

Abstract

Chitosan, the dominant polymer in scientific research, biopharmaceutical and biomedical applications is extracted from shellfish of Nile tilapia and six different insect species (Ground beetle, Carpenter bee, Damsel fly, Earwig, black bug & Egyptian grass hopper ). Fourier transform infrared spectra (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction, UV-Visible spectrophotometer and the degree of their deacetylation are used to characterization analysis of these extracted chitosan and then compared with the crustaceous commercial one. The results insured the potential effect of these extracted chitosan as interesting, valuable alternative resources for industrial applications. The effect of the physiological chitosan solutions of insects, shellfish scales and commercial one on Red, White blood cells, Platelets, Fibrinogen plasma protein, Prothrombin time and partial Thromboplastin time in vitro are studied, the statistical analysis ensured their significant effects.
