CORROSION BEHAVIOR OF SOME GAMMA– IRRADIATED SILICATE GLASSES

Mohammed Saad Allah Amin;

Abstract

The studies of properties of glasses are very important in modern
industries due to changing chemical properties and mechanical and
physical properties with their oxides constituent ratios to fit with
industrial applications and consumers' requirement.
The present research aims to study the behavior and processes of glass
corrosion (chemical resistance of the glass objects towards of solutions
with differing acidic or basic or neutral)
The thesis contains the preparation of glass compositions as laboratory
samples for matching some industrial samples for the study of their
corrosion behavior
types:
Glass of soda lime is the most type of glasses commonly used, and is used
in the production of sheet glass and containers made of glass (such as
bottles and jugs) to save the drinks, food and some goods , used within
Housewares which makes glass used in furnaces and cooking of tempered
glass . Soda-lime glasses constitute about 90% of all types of glass
production all over the world.
Featuring soda-lime glass that is chemically fixed relatively cheap, sturdy,
practical, it is ideal for recycling because of its ability to re-melting
several times.
