Abstract

The value of any monument and what it represents as part of human heritage, history and civilization are clear to every person. In

this research, a new economical procedure Is investigated for the registration of monuments. The proposed technique includes transforming the data stored in analog way " videotape "to digital form and digital data processing to get the final output. The thesis includes a calibration process of the video camera. The quality of the image was studied. The systematic errors of the video camera were isolated through a mathematical model and their effects were investigated. Many mathematical models for data reduction were carried out in order to choose the most suitable one. The capacity and storage of videotape were investigated. An integrated task using video camera was carried out in order to support the new method and to identifY any problems that may appear. In the implementation, a simple intersection method was used to get the control points; the control points were naturally signalized targets. The chosen of naturally signalized feature is to account for inaccessible high places and to avoid any damage that may be occurred to the buildings due to signalized stickers. The output from this process was a series of ground coordinates of the structure that were compared with their original values that acquired by an accurate surveying technique. Moreover the root mean square (RMS) errors for different cases with various number for control points as well as digital maps that show longitudinal, and side view of the registered building were obtained.
