COMPUTER AIDED PROCESS PLANNING FOR NON-AXISYMMETRIC PARTS
Hesham Mohamed Fahmy Hassan;
Abstract
Process planning determines how a product is to be manufactured and it is therefore a key element in manufacturing process. It plays a major part in determining the cost and the quality of components and affects all factory activities.
Industry has observed in the recent. years a decrease in the number of process planners. This situation has led to the widespread interest in CAPP-(Computer Aided Process Planning), the key to the integrated manufacturing which is the most effective tool to increase manufacturing competitiveness.
The aim of the present work is to build a noninteractive generative computer aided process planning system for rotational parts with some non-axisymmetric features. These parts are produced by external and internal turning operations, as well as, end milling operations.
Through the developed system, the information extracted from part drawing is transformed automatically to a complete verified NC program.
