INVESTIGATION ON THE PERFORMANCE OF BRIDGE APPROACH SLAB USING NUMERICAL ANALYSIS

Abstract
Several solutions have been introduced in practices in order to overcome the bump problem, such as using lightweight fill materials, applying a ground improvement technique and/or installing approach slabs. The use of approach slabs, however, has been well-recognized as one of the most efficient techniques. The published results of previous studies of approach slabs are very rare and may not encounter similar conditions to that implemented in our current studies. Moreover, there is still shortcoming with regard to published measurements of bumps. The present study concluded the most effective design of the approach slab in order to reduce the bumps at the end of the slab.
