Synthesis and Characterization of new photoluminescent nanomaterials based on lanthanides for different applications
Rana Helmy Abdo Abd Elhamid Gabr;
Abstract
Lanthanide doped bismuth silicate phosphor powder was prepared by sol-gel process followed by heat treatment. The present work found that the Bi4Si3O12 major phase is formed and crystallized at an annealing temperature that equals 900 o C. The effect of doping BSO with different Ln3+ ions (Pr3+, Sm3+, Eu3+, Dy3+ and Er3+) concentrations on the crystal, morphology, and photoluminescence properties (PL) were investigated. The XRD and TEM results indicated that the capping agents (CTAB and TX-100) and silica matrix can hinder BSO nanophosphor crystal growth and as a consequence decrease their crystal size from micro to nano domain in case of samples dispersed into silica matrix. Ln3+:BSO/SiO2 shows high PL properties (PL emission and lifetime).
