Parents' Care About Pneumonia Among Preschool Children

Amira Ahmed Ali Hassan;

Abstract

Acute lower respiratory infections (ALRI), particularly pneumonia, are the leading and largest single cause of mortality among <5-year-old children in developing countries (Ferdous et al., 2104). Pneumonia causes frequent physician visits, consumption of antibiotics and over-the-counter drugs, parental work loss, and decreased quality of life. In addition, both patient and their families are suffering from this illness. It seems important that mothers need to have right information about pneumonia, and how to take care of the child with the condition (Parvez, Wiroonpanich & Naphapunsakul, 2010).
Aim of the Study
This study aimed to assess parents' care for preschool children with pneumonia through:
1. Assessing parent’s knowledge about pneumonia.
2. Assessing parent’s practices regarding their children with pneumonia.
3. Needs and problems of children with pneumonia.
4. Assessing physical health status of children with pneumonia.
