PREVALENCE OF ANTIPHOSPHOLIPID ANTIBODIES IN PRE-ECLAMPSIA

AHLAM M. HAMZA;

Abstract

Antiphospholipid antibodies (APA) are a group of autoantibodies which are clinically important because of their strong association with thrombosis, recurrent miscarriage, thrombocytopenia, severe preeclampsia, intrauterine growth retardation, placental abruption and infertility.
Several reports have suggested an association between antiphospholipid and severe preeclampsia in the second or early third trimsters.
The term preeclampsia is used to describe a condition which includes a various hypertensive disorders during pregnancy. Eclampsia is the onest of convulsion or coma in a patient with evidence of preeclampsia.
The concept that preeclampsia, eclampsia may be an immunologic disorder was first proposed in 1902.
Since then numerous reports suggest that preeclampsia is caused by an abnormal maternal immune response to antigenic challenge by the
fetoplacental allograf.
