Samia Mohammed Abd El Halim Omar;
Abstract
Birth control has recently become of urgent necessity to our
country.
A safe contraceptive method is one in which the health
benefits outweight the health hazards associated with its use. Hence , the barrier contraceptive methods specially diaphragm
are very safe methods with zero percent chance of death per

year. In addition,' diaphragm has noncontraceptive benefits and
some protective effect against the development of cervical dysplasia.
In this thesis, trials were made to obtain diaphragm acting
as a controlled-release reservoir from which a spremicide is
;releasetl to give local permenant contraceptive effect.
Metrorii ble was the sp ¢1de of choice, where it is safe,
not absorbed from vaginal wall and has a health benefit other
'(than contraception.
L In - Vitro preparation andvaluation of selected medicated polymeric films.

Polyvinyl chloride,
polystyrene
as well as natural rubber
were the polymers of choice to act as matrices from which metronidazole release is controlled.
