The Changes Of Anatomical Relationships Of Pharyngeal Airway Region In Snoring Patients Using Anterior Mandibular Positioning Device

Sherif Abdel-Salam Farrag;

Abstract

Habitual, loud snonng is common in the adult population. It may be the most apparent symptom of the more serious obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSA).
Anterior mandibular positioning device may be considered as one of the treatment modalities of removable oral devices used for treatment and cessation of snoring and OSA.
In this study the anatomical relationships, improvement in respiratory disturbances, and snoring were evaluated at different advancement distance of the mandible with anterior mandibualr positioning device.
Ten snoring patients, class II malocclusion were included in this study (8 males, and 2 femals). Anterior mandibular positioning device (AMPD) was fabricated individually for each patient. AMPDwas designed at three different protrusive mandibular positions (50%, 75% and 100%) of the distances measured from the maximal intercuspation to the maximal acceptable protrusive
position of the mandible.
Pre - prosthetic and post - prothetic examinations and investigations were obtained for the followirig items; lateral cephalometric radiographs to measure airway linear distances,fmger pulse oximeter to investigate respiratory disturbance index and 02 saturation during sleep, and Viga test to investigate pulmonary functions.
