DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF IOT PLATFORM FOR REAL TIME SYSTEMS

Mahmoud Hussein Abdelkarem Abdelsamea;

Abstract

Smartness is the main objective of the current world and the future technologies, the internet of things (IoT) is the key to make any system to be smart. Nowadays, most IoT application systems are real-time systems. Real-time operating systems (RTOS) are used for meeting the real-time requirements for these real-time systems, this makes the IoT applications have the RTOS features like reliability. There are many IoT platforms have been created, but most of them are done for specific applications and do not handle the real-time constrains for real-time systems. In this thesis, an IoT platform design and implementation is proposed for general applications and critical applications. Also, many communication protocols are used in IoT platforms as the message queue telemetry transport protocol (MQTT), but many of them do not support the multi-topic messaging. In this thesis a simple communication protocol is presented, it enhances the delay and the traffic needed for the multi-topic messaging by supporting the multi-topic feature. A performance analysis for the proposed protocol versus MQTT is presented
