Abstract

Two hydrazone ligands, 2-cyano-N'-((4-oxo-4H-chromen-3yl)methylene)acetohydrazide

(CCA) (HL
1
) and 2-cyano-N'-
((thiophene-2-yl)methylene)acetohydrazid (CTA) (HL
2
) were
synthesized. Reaction of the hydrazone ligands with Co
2+
2+
2+
, Ni
, Cu
,
2+
and Zn
ions afforded new binary complexes. Also, new ternary
complexes were prepared by using 8-hydroxyquinoline (8-HQ) as a
secondary ligand. New nano complexes besides novel complexes in
fibers shape were prepared. The complexes were characterized by
elemental and thermal analyses, IR, electronic, ESR and mass
spectra, conductance and magnetic susceptibility measurements as
well as XRD, TEM and SEM. The ligands acts as monoanionic
tridentate. The Coats-Redfern equation was used to calculate the
kinetic and thermodynamic parameters for the different thermal
decomposition steps of some complexes. DFT calculations were
performed to gain better insight on optimized structures and
calculated frequencies of the ligands and some of their complexes.
