Study of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease patients in El Mahalla Chest Hospital in 2017

Abstract


COPD poses a common growing and significant clinical challenge for patients and clinicians’ expert knowledge regarding diagnosis and management. Results of emerging studies will likely lead to enhancement in current management and new paradigms in managing patients with COPD.
The aim of this study was to assess the pattern of COPD patients in El- Mahalla Chest Hospital in the period from January 2017 to June 2017.
All patients subjected to:
1. Full medical history, general and local examination.
2. Pre and post bronchodilator spirometric study according to (GOLD), 2016
• In case of patients who can‘t perform spirometry they will be included only if there were previous spirometric available
• All patients not fulfilling diagnostic criteria of COPD will be excluded.
3. Each patient subjected to questionnaire to detect epidemiology, demographic, clinical characteristic of the patients and treatment.
In this study 120 patients (66 out patients and 54 in patients) fulfilled the diagnostic criteria of COPD based on symptoms and spirometry according to Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease guideline, (2017) was included in the current study.
The mean age of all studied patients was 59.31 ± 9.43 years and the most prevalent between age group was 50-59years and 60-69 years. As regard sex 93.3% were males and 6.7% were females. As regard residence
