Effect of Thrombolytic Therapy On The Evolution Of Significant Mitral Regurgitation In Patients With Inferior Myocardial Infarction

MOHAMED SALAH ELDIN AHMED;

Abstract

Mitral regurgitation IS a serious and relatively common complication following acute MI. It is more common in inferior or posterior MI.

Restoration of the mitral valve competence is associated with improved hemodynamics & increased survival in patients with

isclH;mic such as

MR. While this is proved by revascularization procedures

PTCA or CABO, the possible protective role of

thrombolytic

established.

therapy on mitral valve competence has not been well

We hypothesized that thrombolytic therapy will reduce the incidence and severity of MR after inferior MI.
To prove this, we studied 50 patients, with a first inferior Ml, all received the conventional treatment for AMI, and the first 25 patients received additionally streptokinase as thrombolytic therapy (the treatment group). While the remaining 25 patients formed (the control group) did not due to either late anival or contraindications to thrombolysis. Echo-Doppler study was done I hour after initiation of therapy & I month after AMI aumng to study MR & LV functions.
