PENTOSIDINE, AN ADVANCED CLYCATION END-PRODUCT, AS A NEW BIOCHEMICAL MARKER IN DIFFERENT CLINICAL DISEASES

Hany Morris Danial;

Abstract

Pentosidine is one of the advanced glycation end products (AGEs). It is a fluorescent cross link compound that accumulates in many tissues. It is formed by sequential glycation and oxidation reaction between reducing sugars and proteins. Its formation requires aerobic conditions and antioxidative conditions inhibit its formation.
Until now, pentosidine has been quantified by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). This allows an accurate determination of low concentration of pentosidine. However several trials have been made to develop an ELISA system for the determination of pentosidine. Moreover, immunohistochemical methods are used for the determination of pentosidine in different body tissues.
Pentosidine can be used as a general marker of
