Liver Diseases in Type I Diabetes Mellitus

Abstract


iabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by chronic hyperglycemia resulting from defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. Metabolic abnormalities in carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins result from the importance of insulin as an anabolic hormone.
This cross-sectional study was carried out on 107 children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes mellitus attended the Pediatric Diabetes Clinic, Pediatric Hospital, Ain Shams University. An informed consent was obtained from each patient or control or their legal guardians before enrollment in the study.
Inclusion criteria:
1. Patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (2 years duration at least).
2. Patients on regular visits to clinic.
3. Patients on regular insulin therapy.
Exclusion criteria: any clinical evidence of liver dysfunction
All patients subjected to do liver transaminases, HA1C, US ABD and rapid test of HCV, fibroscan done only for patients with elevated transaminases and hepatomegaly.
Study sample include 39% were females, mean of age of patients were 12.01 with range from 2 to 18 years, mean of weight were 40.78 kg, mean of height were 138 cm and BMI of them were 1.2 with range from 0.42 to 1.8. only (0.9%) of
