Role of MRI in Diagnosis of Endometrial Cancer
Mona Mohamed Salaheldin Alhawary;
Abstract
ndometrial cancer is most common malignancy of the female reproductive tract.
MR imaging is highly sensitive and specific for depicting important prognostic factors of the endometrial carcinoma as depth of myometrial invasion, cervical invasion and the pres¬ence of lymph node metastases, which is essential for accurate preoperative staging which helps in treatment planning and improves overall patient survival.
MRI has been shown to be the best imaging modality in disease staging and treatment planning compared to endo-vaginal ultrasound and computed tomography.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the role of Magnetic resonance imaging in diagnosis of endometrial carcinoma, with histopathological diagnosis taken as a reference.
Our study was conducted on twenty five patients, MRI correctly diagnosed 21 patients with endometrial carcinoma correlated with post-operative histopathological diagnosis.
