Role of Renal Arterial Embolization (RAE) in Treatment of Iatrogenic Renal Arterial Injuries

Abstract
Abstract
The incidence of severe post operative renal hemorrhagic compli¬cations reaches up to 9.5%. Prolonged renal bleeding can result in systemic complications including: circulatory shock, acute renal failure and disseminated intravascular coagulopathy.
The standard management of renal vascular compromise includes: conservative measures for asymptomatic/stable iatrogenically induced peri-renal hematomas. Surgical repair of renal arterial injury is usually difficult- especially in hemodynamically unstable patients- with a high risk of failure and possible subsequent nephrectomy.
Renal angiography provides a high diagnostic value in the detection of iatrogenic renal arterial complications and therapeutic value if the embolization of the bleeder is to be considered.
