Vasopressors in Septic Shock

Ahmed Thrwoat Ahmed Awoad;

Abstract

S
epsis is a life threatening organ dysfunction causedby adysregulated host response to infection.
Septic shock is a subset of sepsis in which underlying circulatory and cellular / metabolic abnormalities are profound enough to substantially increase mortality.
The pathogenesis of the septic response involves interaction of the host with a microbial invader. The outcome of the process depends on the capability of the immune system, endothelium and haemostatic mechanisms to contain and then eliminate the process, and the ability of the patient to restore homeostasis over time.
The first priority in any patient with severe sepsis or septic shock is stabilization of their airway and breathing. Next, perfusion to the peripheral tissues should be restored.
