POLYMER FREE DRUG-ELUTING STENTS VERSUS DURABLE POLYMER DRUG-ELUTING STENTS IN ELECTIVE PERCUTANEOUS CORONARY INTERVENTIONS IN PATIENTS WITH STABLE CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE PATIENTS: A SINGLE CENTER PROSPECTIVE COMPARATIVE STUDY
Sherif Mohammad Aziz Abdalazeem Altoukhy;
Abstract
he theory of the presence polymeric coating in drugeluting
stents was highly debated in the literature
regarding its role in provoking delayed arterial healing and
delayed hypersensitivity response which may be responsible for
late lumen loss (LLL), target lesion revascularization (TLR)
and major adverse cardiac events (MACE).
Most of the clinical trials in literature focused on
comparing the clinical outcome between permanent polymer
and polymer free drug-eluting stents, but there is little data in
about the inflammatory effect of the permanent polymer versus
polymer free drug eluting stents in association with the clinical
outcome.
The aim of this is study was to compare the inflammatory
response of polymer free versus permanent polymer drugeluting
stents (DES) in patients with stable coronary artery
disease undergoing elective percutaneous coronary
intervention, and the effect of this inflammatory response on
the 6 month clinical outcomes & major adverse cardiac events.
This randomized prospective randomized study was
conducted on 100 patients with stable coronary artery disease
(SCAD) planned for elective percutaneous coronary
interventions who presented to the cardiology department in
