A Comparative Study between Multimodal Analgesia and Single Mode Analgesia in Lumber Vertebral Surgery

Hend Mohamed Nader Naim Ali;

Abstract

Postoperative pain after spine surgeries is a major concern for the patients, anesthesiologists and surgeons. Nociceptive signals have the capacity to initiate prolonged changes in both the peripheral and central nervous system that will lead to the amplification and prolongation of postoperative pain. Furthermore, prolonged central sensitization may lead to permanent alterations in the central nervous system that contribute to chronic pain long after the acute stimulus has been withdrawn. The importance of peripheral and central modulation of nociception has fostered the concept of “preemptive analgesia” in patients undergoing surgery.
