Abstract


hronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a lung disease characterised mainly by airflow limitation that is not fully reversible, and corresponds to the major cause of chronic respiratory insufficiency and Cor pulmonale. Cor pulmonale can be defined as right ventricular enlargement (hypertrophy and/or dilatation), caused by pulmonary artery hypertension resulting from diseases affecting the structure and/or function of the lungs.
Cardiac Troponin I (cTnI) is a specific marker for cardiac injury.
The aim of the current study was to evaluate the value of serum troponin I level in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients.
The present study was carried out in chest department of police hospital Nasr city to evaluate the level of serum troponin I in patients with COPD. The study included (90) subjects divided into 3 groups each group composed of 30 subjects. These groups are patients with acute exacerbation of COPD, stable COPD patients and healthy control group.
