Abstract


VV are abnormally swollen (dilated) and tortuous (twisted) veins and usually situated quite near the surface and visible beneath the skin
VV are multifactorial due to either primary venous disease or secondary causes and the complete etiology of VVis still partially understood (Robertson et al., 2008).
Patients with VV may present with no symptoms just cosmetic concern only or symptoms related to VV include tingling, aching, burning, pain, swelling, sensations of heaviness, itching skin, restless legs, leg tiredness, and fatigue
The study aim To measure the prevalence and risk factors of VV among women in the child bearing age (15-55 years old) attending PHC units in Cairo.
A cross sectional study was conducted using systematic random sample at El-Nahda at ElSalam2 medical area in Cairo where 231 women participated and data was collected using interview questionnaire and clinical examination. This interview questionnaire is obtained from a cohort study Makivara et al; in Finland.
