MOHAMMAD ANWAR AWAD ELSOROUGY;
Abstract
The study aimed to analyzing feeding systems for dairy
production in urban and peri-urban areas in three main provinces in
Egypt. The provinces which targeted for the survey were: Cairo, Giza and
Qalioubeya. A questionnaire was conducted to cover the data related
variables of the production systems as: family story, and family
composition (family structure, education, and activities); land and crop
production (land area, type of holding, cropping systems and production
costs and yield); animal stock (due to species and physiological status),
and animal transactions (animal sale and purchase); herd production (milk
and meat); feeding systems in winter (from Nov to May) and in summer
(from Jun to Oct) and feed costs; animal condition (animal housing and
animal health); labor on livestock activities, other costs and funding. The
total number of questionnaires was 72 included the regions of: Manshiat
El Bakary (Giza governorate); Saft El Laban (Giza governorate) and
Shalaquan (Qalioubeya governorate) as peri-urban areas and Elmarg
(Cairogovernorate); Omraneya (Giza governorate) and Dar Elsalam
(Cairo governorate) as urban areas. The questionnaire was tested and
modified in 9 rounds with producers included the same areas before
finalized. As a result of the great significant in the selected samples, a
typology was processed gathering similarities in two main groups of
producers: land-access and landless producers.
