Abstract

This study aimed at testing nnovative approaches as laser and ultrasound scaler for cleaning corrosion off the metal decoration. An experimental study was performed on test samples of multiple vintage case studies. They represenetd different metals with different platings, e.g. copper, copper-zinc"brass", silvered copper, gilt copper, silvered brass, silver alloy.Ornaments varied geatly, e.g. spun metal strips, flat strips, sequins, spangles, looped spirals, coiled wires, coiled strips, spangles ..etc. Case studies were investigated and analysed via kind of microscopy and ESEM equipped with EDAX helped identify the fibre types, metal composition, corrosion, and contamination.EDAX Line-scan helped detect the plating on the surface(surfacings).
