Incidence of Traumatic Dental Injuries in Primary Dentition among a Group of Preschool Egyptian Children attending Pediatric Dentistry Department Cairo University: Cross Sectional Study

Abstract


Traumatic dental injuries of primary teeth in children is a significant dental public health problem worldwide. No published study or data was found regarding this problem in Egypt. Therefore, this study was done to determine the incidence, types, causes and other factors associated with TDIs in a group of Egyptian preschool children attending dental hospital of Cairo University.
A cross-sectional observational study was done in Pediatric dentistry and Dental Public Health Department, Cairo University on children up to age of 7 years that presented with TDIs in their primary teeth throughout a year from October 2015 to September 2016. An interview-administered questionnaire, clinical examination, radiographs and clinical photos were taken for each patient. Information on gender, age, date of presentation, time elapsed since injury, place and the cause of injury were obtained from the questionnaire.
