Sleeve gastrectomy with loop bipartition as a novel procedure for management of type 2 diabetes in obese patients
Mootaz Mahmoud ElHusseini;
Abstract
Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a cluster of metabolic abnormalities including hypertension, dyslipidemia, impaired glucose tolerance and abdominal obesity which increase the risk of diabetes type 2, cardiovascular and chronic kidney diseases. Considering MetS as a chronic condition, the association between MetS and health related quality of life has been widely documented in recent years.(Park et al., 2011)Moreover recent evidence suggests a link between MetS and various chronic diseases such as cancer, notably through pro-inflammatory mechanisms and hormonal processes (Mendonca et al., 2015), but also cognitive decline and dementia through metabolic and vascular mechanisms.(Siervo et al., 2014)
