Transverse Versus Longitudinal Uterine Incision in Abdominal Myomectomy: A Randomized Controlled trial
Ahmed Mohamed Fahim Metwally;
Abstract
Blood loss during myomectomy has always been a field for investigation. It has long been assumed that longitudinal uterine incision causes less blood loss than transverse incision.
Aiming to prove that transverse incision does not cause more blood loss, this study was conducted at Ain Shams university Maternity hospital on 52 patients undergoing abdominal myomectomy for single myoma.The patients were randomized into two groups that showed no significant difference in demographic data, characters of myoma or indication of surgery.
Our results proved that there was no significant difference between both incisions regarding intra-operative blood loss, need for blood transfusion, post-operative Hb drop, operative time or incidence of postoperative fever.
