Nutritional Patterns of Lactating Mothers in Rural Area
Nagwa Ebrahim Mohammed Ali;
Abstract
L
actation is a crucial period during which the mother continues to protect a young infant with almost the same efficiency in feeding as the placenta. In developing countries the intake of all the nutrients has been found inadequate to meet the needs of mother as well as her growing infant (Ongosi, 2010).
Nutritional needs during lactation are unique and one of the highest demands for good nutrition during a women’s life. Lactation raises nutrient needs, mainly because of the loss of nutrients, first through colostrum and then through breast milk. Many lactating mothers are not meeting the optimal nutrient intakes for both mother and infant (Merchant, 2014).
