Influence of different surface treatments of CAD-CAM ceramic materials on the micro shear bond strength of composite repair material

Angie Elias Gerges;

Abstract

Statement of Problem: With all the advances in dental ceramic material along with the introduction of CAD/CAM technology, the brittleness of the ceramic restorations remains a major drawback, which makes them highly prone to fracture or chipping during function. The more conservative approach in this case is repair of the restoration instead of replacing it. So the problem in the repair procedure is the bond strength between the repair material and the CAD/CAM material of the defected restoration. The bond strength is affected by the surface treatment preformed for bonding and the oral cavity environment. There are many surface treatments either mechanical or chemical that can be done, but choosing the right one according to the type of CAD/CAM material is the trick.
