PREPARATION AND EVALUATION OF SOME SURFACE ACTIVE AGENTS FROM ALKYL BIPHENYL

Ammona Salem Mohamed;

Abstract

In the present investigation, biphenyl alkyl ketones were prepared from biphenyl and the corresponding acid chlorides via Friedel-Craft's reaction.
These ketones were reduced to the alkyl biphenyls according to
Clemmensen's reduction method.
properties.
ethoxylated to different levels of ethylene oxide content (47-79%) to
obtain the required nonionic surfactants.
Throughout this work, the properties of the intermediates and end products were detennined, and a comparative study was made between The chemical structure of all the prepared surfactants and their surface
The prepared alkyl biphenyl ketones and alkyl biphenyls were sulphonated and processed to anionic surfactants.
Alkyl biphenyls were chloromethylated, and then reacted with triethyl amine, triethanol amine and pyridine to produce cationic surfactants.
Alkyl biphenyls were chlorosulphonated and the obtained sulphonyl chlorides were converted into sulphonamides. The latter were
